Project Description

Cereal Growers Association (CGA), in partnership with the Farm to Market Alliance (FtMA) and the World Food Programme (WFP), implemented an assignment aimed at empowering 20,000 farmer groups across 13 counties in Kenya. The initiative focused on improving access to affordable local financing options to strengthen farmers’ capacity for production, aggregation, and market participation.

A key component of the project involved the establishment and digitization of 3,000 Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) to promote financial inclusion and sustainability within farming communities. Through these digital VSLAs, farmers were able to save collectively, access credit, and invest in agricultural activities more efficiently. This integrated approach enhanced financial resilience, boosted productivity, and contributed to long-term food security and economic empowerment in rural Kenya.
